New coating machine "canal"

The construction of the new coating machine proved to be a real challenge

1,000 m² additional production space

Construction of an additional new production hall, with which the company gained an extra 1,000 m² of production space. The inauguration took place inside the new hall with 175 guests on the 27.08.1999.

Construction of a new warehouse

In May 1990, VITO received permission to build an additional hall on its premises. The hall was intended to serve as a warehouse to accommodate the stock of raw materials and semi-finished goods, which had by then become extensive. The hall was built the following year.

On 18. October 1991, a large inauguration ceremony took place with all employees and many guests of honour.

All requirements met

A thermal afterburning system was installed on the coating line. With this, VITO met the legal requirements necessary to continue processing solvent-based adhesives.

The exhaust gases generated during the coating process are extracted and incinerated (oxidation of solvent vapours) through this system.

VITO Irmen GmbH & Co KG

On 8. September 1976 the company changes its name to VITO Irmen GmbH & Co KG, Remagen.

Internationally established

The company presents itself with confidence at the "Interzum" trade fair for the furniture industry.

New production hall

In 1964, a new production hall was built on the premises to enable efficient and cost-effective production on a large area, and to allow for the much-needed and sought-after expansion of the company. With the shift towards the construction industry in the late 1970s, the self-adhesive VITO shipping pad - made of ground pressed cork - was added to the product range. A product like this was in high demand for the transport of heavy insulating glass units.

Thanks to its high quality, sales of this product have continuously increased over many years, and, to this day, it remains an essential and practical tool for the transport and manufacturing of insulating glass.

Coating line

Between late 1962 and early 1963, this coating line was installed—a facility that had become urgently necessary for the company’s production objectives, specifically the establishment of a dedicated department for self-adhesive technology. The department’s centerpiece—a modern drying tunnel complete with coating machine and explosion-proof (Ex-63) winding and unwinding units—was put into operation.

A facility for manufacturing pressure-sensitive adhesives soon followed. The company’s production was thus now based on two pillars: the manufacture of felt products and the production of self-adhesive items.

Villa Hettlage

In 1961, the company - now known as Irmen & Cie KG - purchased the Villa Hettlage in Remagen-Kripp on the street "Batterieweg", and established its offices and administrative headquarters there.

The residential property included a large tract of land, which was also acquired with the intention of building a production facility there at a later date.

50 years Irmen

Vitoplast: for protection against drafts, dust and banging doors. The product was a smash hit at the 1957 trade fair and brought comfort to many a drafty home.

Irmen increases export sales

The company adapted to market demands and, as early as the second half of the 1950s (starting in 1955), began processing felt and plastics—for example, polyurethane foams laminated with felt and equipped with a self-adhesive backing.

A diverse product portfolio was created, incorporating a wide variety of plastic and metal foils.

The sales market was not limited to Germany; a significant portion of the goods was exported to England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, and the Benelux countries. Exporters helped distribute Irmen products to Canada and the USA as well. Exports accounted for up to 50% of sales.
